VIVAnews - Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN) Gories Mere said the number of drug users in the country who are under rehabilitation is still minimum.

He said that according to data that BNN collected until 2009, 17,734 users have been under drug rehab care.

"The data shows that only around 0.5 percent of drug users are under therapy and rehab," said Gories today, "while 99.5 percent others are denied."

According to him, drug abuse has been everywhere in Indonesia committed by any class. The distribution rate of the drug abuse was 1.99 percent in 2008 (3.2 million to 3.6 million people).

He said that thorough therapy and rehabilitation must be implemented through various programs by involving recovering addicts.

Gories said drug addicts must be dealing with various obstacles. Drug addicts are prone to discrimination which is often aimed against them on purpose.
